I'm not sure, but my speculation is they discovered the 'spectrum' of visible light.

As you may know, sometimes a 'rainbow' pattern comes out of a lens. This is because the different wavelengths of light are split out into the color light spectrum - showing the colors of Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.

Good luck.

They discovered a number of things. First off, they discovered how to make lighthouses, telescopes, and lasers. They used these to ward off armies and intimidate people. They were also good defensive tools because they could see when the enemy was coming.
