Have you looked into companies that sell vases at wholesale prices? That's what I did. Then after my wedding, I listed them in the newspaper and sold them for almost what I paid for them to a lady who was getting married and looking for centerpieces.

I don't know if you will find anything cheaper than $1 for a glass vase!
how about milk pitchers - the heavy white ironstone ones - i'm sure you could order these from a florist or wholesale restaurant supply store. tie a bow on the handle to match your colors if need be.
What about hurricane lamps for candles? You can get cheap glass vases though, have a look around.
