Whats the best way to put pretty designs on clear glass items...?

e.g. salt'n'pepper shakers, hand soap holders....i'd like to do stencils but is that practical?

there is also a acid etching you use contact paper cut out a design put the acid on. it turns the glass a whitish color. go to a arts and craft store they will have what you need.
