If I get a new nostril piercing, is it possible to let it heal with a clear glass retainer ?

Is it recommended that I use only a steel nostril screw ?

I can't get the piercing because of work, so I'm hoping to be able to switch between attractive jewelry and inconspicuous jewelry. If I get a new nostril piercing, is it possible to let it heal with a clear glass retainer ?
If you're going to be pierced with a retainer, you need to wear it full time until you are healed. Taking your jewelry in and out is going to slow your healing and can increase your risk for scarring and infections. So while it would be nice to wear a pretty stud when you go out, it's not going to be fun when your piercing is bright red and has a nasty bump on it.

Another issue to consider is how a new nostril piercing reacts to being bumped, snagged or having its jewelry changed. New nostril piercings swell up VERY quickly when they are aggravated. This is especially true if you pull your jewlery out by mistake or try to change it early. It is very possible that you'd pull out your retainer only to discover that you can't get your other jewelry in in its place. The membrane that lines your nostril is quick to start closing and rushing to the piercer to have your jewelry put back in isn't an option on your way into work.

A glass, bioflex, ptfe or other piercing safe retainer is a fine thing to be pierced with and heal. It's also incredibly unlikely to cause an allergic reaction which is a plus.If I get a new nostril piercing, is it possible to let it heal with a clear glass retainer ?
yes it should heal just fine. another thing you could do is take it out during work, then during break put it back it, and then take it out for work again. or just use a retainer, like you suggested.
